Lgendary America racing driver Mario Andretti was born on this day in 1940. He is the last American driver to have an impact in the F1 and won the WDC in 1978 with Lotus. He is the only driver to have won the Indianpolis 500 (1969), the Daytona 500 (1967), and the F1 World Championship. His son Michael drove for McLaren in 1993 with little success.

Andretti shares his birthday with French driver sebastien Bourdais who was born today in 1979 in Le Mans. Like Andretti, Bourdais raced with great success in America, winning four Champ car titles in a row. He switched to F1 in 2008
