LEWIS Hamilton and Jenson Button can’t wait to test the McLaren challenger they will be driving in this year’s Formula 1 World Championship.

The McLaren Mercedes MP4-25 will be unveiled to the world’s media at Vodafone’s UK headquarters in Newbury, Berkshire, on Friday.

Reigning F1 champion Button and 2008 title holder Hamilton, whose family live in Tewin, are both looking forward to trying out the new machine for the first time.

Herts-born Hamilton, 25, said: “I’m excited and can’t wait to see it and test it.”

Official testing starts out in Valencia, Spain, on February 1.

Lewis said: “We’ll be sharing the pre-season testing equally, and it will be important to keep a crossover of information between us to make sure we are both pulling in the right direction.”

McLaren newcomer Button, who turned 30 earlier this month, is eager to climb into the car’s cockpit.

The 2009 Formula 1 world champion said: “Honestly, I really cannot wait to get out to Valencia and get my first run in the MP4-25.

“I think that’s when it will finally sink in that I’m a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver.”

As for the season ahead, the Frome Flyer added: “Obviously, my aim is to keep the number one on my car for as long as possible!

“I’m more motivated than ever to work with the team and my engineers, and I’ve extremely positive for the year ahead.”

The opening race of the F1 season is the Grand Prix of Bahrain on March 14.

The Australian GP takes place in Melbourne a fortnight later.
