In the 60’s and 70’s Jackie Stewart was one of the best racing drivers in the world, but in the 50’s he was not even the best in his family. The Scottish man who would go on to become a 3 time WDC was preceded in the sport by his older brother Jimmy, who joined his first race on the British GP at Silverstone in 1953. He retired from driving two years later after a big crash and then soonafter supported his brother Jackie. James Robert Stewart died on this day in 2008 aged 76. In Jackie Stewart’s autobiography he talks of his brother: “What do I owe Jim? I owe him almost everything.”
